About Fergus
Independent. Experienced. Committed.
Fergus Ewing has proudly served the people of Inverness and Nairn since the Scottish Parliament was established in 1999.
A well-known local voice, Fergus is known for standing up for the Highlands — even when it’s meant challenging his own party. Now running as an independent, he continues to put his constituents first and fight for what really matters to our communities.
Fergus grew up in a political family — his mother, Winnie Ewing, was one of the most respected figures in Scottish politics. A qualified solicitor, Fergus worked in law before entering public life, bringing a sharp eye for detail and a strong commitment to fairness.
Over the years, Fergus has served in key ministerial roles in government, including: Minister for Community Safety Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism Cabinet Secretary for Rural Economy and Tourism In each of these roles, he worked hard to support Scotland’s rural communities, grow the economy, and improve infrastructure.
He’s been a leading voice in the campaign to dual the A9 and A96 — pushing tirelessly to make sure the Highlands get the investment they deserve.
Fergus is a familiar face across the constituency. Whether it’s meeting residents, attending local events, or raising issues in Parliament, he’s always focused on delivering real results for the people he represents.
Now, as an independent candidate, Fergus is asking for your support to continue that work — free from party pressure and driven only by what’s right for Inverness, Nairn, and the Highlands.
Breaking Free to Speak for You
Now more than ever, Fergus believes it’s time to put people before party politics. After more than two decades of public service — and a career built on speaking out for his constituents — he’s made the decision to stand as an independent. Why? Because he refuses to stay silent when the Highlands are overlooked.
Fergus isn’t bound by party loyalty. He’s driven by results, by fairness, and by a deep sense of duty to the people of Inverness and Nairn. His focus is clear: improving lives, protecting local services, and securing the investment our communities deserve.
This campaign is about cutting through the noise, challenging the status quo, and giving the Highlands a voice that won’t be ignored. Fergus is ready to keep doing the work — but he needs your support to do it.
